What a conversation looks like
1. A question you have taken a position on — a dozen of them at the start, answered with for or against. Something like: should voting be compulsory?
2. One person who answered the other way, in the language you chose. If nobody is waiting, you stay in the queue and can answer more questions meanwhile.
3. Up to twenty minutes of video, just the two of you. You can end it at any time.
4. One question afterwards, to you alone: did your view change? Yes or no.
And when nobody is online
Every question has a page where people write, reply to each other, and mark what is worth reading. One rule holds it together: nothing is readable until you have taken a position on the question yourself, so everybody there has said where they stand. It is the half of Splivex that works at three in the morning.

Take a position
Twelve short questions, answered with for or against. They take a minute or two and they are what matching works from — without positions there is no opposite to find.
Meet the other side
Splivex looks for somebody who answered one of your questions the other way, in the language you chose, and who is not somebody you spoke to recently. Usually under a minute; if nobody is waiting, you stay in the queue and can answer more questions meanwhile.
Have a real conversation
Camera and microphone on both sides, up to twenty minutes, and a timer that starts only once both of you are actually there. Then one question, to you alone, and straight on to the next conversation if you want one.
What Splivex is not
The conversation is spoken
You see a face, you hear a voice, and you have twenty minutes — that alone changes how people talk to each other. There is writing here too, on the questions themselves, and it is the part that works when nobody is online. But it is not what the twenty minutes are.
No winners
No votes on the better argument, no score, nobody declared right, and nobody watching to decide it. Afterwards there is one question, and it is about you: did your view change? Yes or no.
No AI in between
Splivex does not summarise your discussion, does not rate your arguments and does not tell you who was right. It finds someone who disagrees. The rest is yours.
Nothing is recorded
Nothing is stored, and the conversation does not even pass through us — the two browsers connect directly, and where a firewall blocks that, a relay forwards the encrypted stream without being able to read it. The one exception is a report: it captures a single frame of the other person at that moment, for moderation, deleted after 30 days.
Before you start
- What happens in twenty minutes?
- You are shown a question you have taken a position on, and matched with somebody who took the other one. Then you talk. You can leave at any time; after twenty minutes it ends by itself. The timer only starts once both of you are actually in the room, so waiting for the other person does not eat into it.
- How do you find someone who disagrees?
- From the questions you answered. Splivex looks for somebody who took the opposite position on a question you have both answered, in the language you picked for conversations, and who is not somebody you spoke to a moment ago. The more questions you answer, the faster that goes — with five you can start, with thirty you rarely wait.
- Do I have to show my face?
- Yes. Camera and microphone are required — that is the point of it. A conversation where one side is a text box is the thing Splivex exists to replace.
- What happens with what I say?
- Nothing is recorded. The conversation goes directly from browser to browser and never reaches our servers. About one connection in six cannot go direct — a company firewall, a mobile network — and then a relay forwards the packets, encrypted between the two of you and unreadable to it. What stays afterwards is the question, how long you talked, and whether something moved — not a word of it. The single exception: if somebody reports you, one still frame is captured at that moment and shown to moderation. It is deleted 30 days after the case is closed.
- What if somebody behaves badly?
- One button ends the conversation and sends a report to moderation, together with a single still frame of the other person from that moment. You can tick blocking at the same time — then the two of you are never matched again, in either direction. Reports are read by a person, and every decision has to carry a reason.
- Do I need an account?
- Not to try it. Two conversations run without one: you give a name and a language and start. The trial shows a selection of the questions rather than all of them, and friends need an account. Whatever you answer stays if you decide to keep it.
- Does it cost anything?
- No. Discussing is free and stays free.
